Migrating To Google Analytics 4
Google has announced that it is phasing out Universal Analytics in favour of a new solution called Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
This means that the current conversion tracking set up within your Google Ads and Analytics account will become redundant by the middle of 2023.
In order to make sure that your Google Ads and Analytics accounts remain fully compliant with Google Best Practices, please instruct your web development team to prepare for the migration to GA4 by following the instructions below.
Instructions for web development team: #
If you do not use a Website Builder or CMS:
- Click here to set up a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property alongside the existing Universal Analytics property.
- There will be no changes to your existing Google Analytics setup by following these steps.
If you do use a Website Builder or CMS:
- If the site is hosted on a Content Management System (for example, Shopify, Hubspot, Magento, Squarespace, etc.) that requires a “UA-” ID (i.e., won’t accept a “G-” ID), you can still use GA4.
- You will need to paste the global site tag (gtag.js) snippet manually into your website builder’s/CMS’s custom HTML field.
- Click here to follow instructions for your particular CMS.
If you have questions on making the switch to Google Analytics 4, please read this article at Google Help Centre Resources.
We appreciate this may seem like a big change, so as always we are here to support in any way we can. If you need help to oversee the migration, please let your client manager know.
