User Consent Policy
On 25 May 2018, Google updated their EU user consent policy to coincide with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To comply with the policy, it is your responsibility for making disclosures to, and obtaining consent from, end users of your websites and apps in the European Economic Area (EEA) along with the UK. Trust is a big factor for Google and it is very strict that users must opt in where there data is used.
You must ensure that:
- You have a privacy policy that discloses that you share customer data with third parties to perform services on your behalf, and that you obtain consent for such sharing where legally required.
- Only use Google’s approved API or interface to upload customer data.
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including any self-regulatory or industry codes that may apply.
If you plan to upload customer data to Google, you must also ensure that all information is collected from a customer who:
- Purchased an item from your website.
- Registered to receive marketing messages through your webiste/apps.
- And/or signed up for your loyalty programme in your physical shop.
A cookie banner and detailed privacy policy will allow users to opt-in to giving their data. If you are an e-commerce seller you must also ensure that you have a returns policy, payment options displayed on every page and display of your contact details including address, email and phone number.
